Today, 15 July marks St Swithins Day - when if you believe it, the actions of an ancient Bishop of Winchester allows us to predict the weather pattern for the next 40 days! If it rains on St Swithins day, it will allegedly rain for the next 40 days. I call that good old British weather myself!
But being able to accurately predict what is going to happen for the next 40 days in your life would certainly be useful.
The desire for control and stability is a common theme in my work but the reality is that life is inherently unpredictable. This is especially true for those facing a cancer diagnosis, where the uncertainty of the future can feel overwhelming and particularly scary.
The fear of the unknown, uncertainty about tests or treatment results, and the possibility of setbacks can all contribute to feelings of anxiety and powerlessness. But while we can't control everything, we can control how we react.
A good place to start handling the emotions tied to uncertainty is focusing on what you can influence. This includes looking after your physical and emotional well-being, seeking support from loved ones or professionals, and setting achievable goals. By concentrating on what you can manage, you can regain a sense of empowerment in the face of unpredictability.
Another valuable strategy is practicing mindfulness and acceptance. Instead of trying to forecast and dictate every detail of your life, embrace the present moment and accept unpredictability as a natural part of life. Easier said than done when but by doing so, you can reduce the anxiety and fear associated with uncertainty.
Lastly, building resilience and optimism is crucial in difficult times. When you feel understandably scared and overwhelmed by life, it is important to remember the strengths you do have that can help you deal with whatever is coming next. By focusing on your strengths, leaning on your support network, and maintaining a positive mindset, you can navigate life's unpredictability much more effectively .
Remember, you are not alone in your journey, and with the right support and mindset, you can weather any storm that comes your way.
Now. Where’s my brolly ?☂️
